Question:
Which benefits does the Femtosecond laser have, compared to conventional LASIK?
Answer:
The Femtosecond laser works in a different wavelength than the traditional Excimer-laser. The benefit of LASIK, with the use of the Femtosecond-laser, is that it is safer and more precise when opening the corneal flap. During a normal LASIK procedure, a micro-keratome (a tiny scalpel, which is less precise than laser) is used to do this. Furthermore, Femtosecond can be used on patients with thinner corneas or particularly steep or flat corneal reliefs. Femtosecond-laser is also suited for certain corneal conditions such as special corneal curvatures or weaknesses.
