More than half of the population have expanded, visible veins on their legs or in the face. The condition is primarily found with those of fair complexion, and in most cases the cause is a hereditary defect in the vein system, which causes thread veins and varicose veins. Obesity, along with sitting or standing a lot at work, pregnancy, or sun and cold, are all factors, which might also influence the development of this condition.
Thread veins and varicose veins are generally distinguished from each other. Thread veins are sick veins, which are small and line shaped. Varicose veins are larger - more than 4 mm in diameter.
Varicose veins are not normally dangerous, and even though they might cause physical problems, most patients have them removed purely for cosmetic reasons. Please note that varicose veins often occur with pregnant women, and they usually go away on their own a few months after the birth.
Varicose veins are usually treated with surgery, where the entire vein is removed through an operative procedure. In some cases, the varicose vein can be treated with the help of a so-called sclerosing injection.
It is recommended to contact a clinic that performs one or more of the treatments described below. During a preliminary consultation, the doctor will be able to evaluate which of the treatments are best suited for the individual patient.
