About cheek Augmentation with Permanent Dermal Filler
Permanent dermal filler can be used to accentuate the cheeks. With the use of a thin needle, the gel is injected directly into the requested areas. The treatment is quickly over with, and the changes visible immediately. The result is permanent.
Generally on injection of Permanent Dermal Filler
Aquamid is a sheer gel, which is made by water (97,5%) and polyacrylamid - a material which is also used for soft contact lenses. Aquamid is a dermal filler which can add more volume to the treated area.
Injection of Aquamid can enhance the lips, chin, or nose. It can also accentuate the jawline or cheek bones, as well as smoothen out furrows or creases in the face.
Aquamid cannot be broken down by the enzymes of the skin. This makes it a permanent dermal filler, and it is here that this product differs from fillers such as Perlane, Restylane, and Esthelis, which all give a non-permanent result.
Therefore, if you have even the least bit of doubt, as to whether you should have the treatment, Aquamid is not recommended. Instead, you should start out by having the same treatment, but with a non-permanent filler, seeing as the cosmetic result is the same.
It is advised to discuss these matters with your treatment provider during the initial consultation.
The procedure
The treatment provider will start by disinfecting the skin, in order to avoid infection.
The Aquamid is injected into the top layer of the skin, using a thin syringe. The perforations with the syringe may hurt a bit. The amount of perforations needed depend on the type and extent of the treatment.
The treatment takes less than 30 minutes.
Anaesthesia
No sedation is necessary. The treatment is ambulant.
Side-effects
After the treatment, the patient will experience mild swelling and a bit of reddening in the treated area. Contusions (bruising) and a tingly sensation might also occur.
Risk of complications
When having the injection, there is a risk of bacteria being brought down underneath the skin. This might lead to infection, which will show by swelling, intense heat, and pain.
If something should go wrong, so that the injected Aquamid needs to be removed, it might require complicated surgery, which will most likely leave unsightly scars in the area.
Healing and recovery
Work may be resumed immediately after the treatment. It is advised not to touch the treated area until 6 hours after the treatment. After this, light makeup can be applied.
It is also advised not to expose the treated area to powerful heat (sunlight or tanning beds), or strong cold for up to 3 weeks.
Duration of the result
An injection with Aquamid gives a permanent result. This also means, that if the result is not as expected, it cannot be undone.
Please note that a single treatment with aquamid is not always enough. Often, several treatments are needed in order to obtain the requested result.
