About temporary Dermal Filler against Face Wrinkles/Face Creases

Temporary dermal filler such as Perlane and Restylane can be used to fill out deep wrinkles and folds in the skin, so that these are smoothed out. Dermal fillers will only affect the dynamic (mimic) wrinkles, meaning the wrinkles that appear when the muscles of the face contract.

The products have no effect on the fine wrinkles in the face, or on acne scars. For this purpose it will be neccesary with a dermabrasion, a chemical peel, or laser treatment.

Dermal fillers are only well suited, if the wrinkles have a certain depth, and fillers will not be able to remove the wrinkles entirely.

Dynamic wrinkles will, regardless of the type of injection, still occur as long as there are muscles contracting. For this reason, the treatment is often combined with muscle numbing injections such as Botox or Dysport.

Generally on injection of Non-Permanent Dermal Filler

Temporary filler such as Perlane, Restylane and Esthelis, is a crystal clear gel, made from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in all living organisms.

One of the benefits of these products is that the basic substance - this being the hyaluron acid - appears naturally in all humans and animals. Due of this, allergic reactions are rare.

The result of the treatment will be visible immediately.

The treatment takes less than half an hour.

The procedure

The treatment provider will start out by disinfecting the skin, in order to avoid infection.

With a thin syringe, the Perlane, Restylane or Esthelis is injected into the top layer of skin. The hyaluronic acid binds water and expands the tissue. The perforations with the syringe may hurt a bit. The amount of perforations needed depend on the type and extent of the treatment.

Anaesthesia

No sedation is necessary. The treatment is ambulant.

Side-effects

After the treatment, the treated area will be left red and sore. Itching of the skin may also occur. This will usually go away after 1-2 days. The swelling will usually take a little longer to fade.

Risk of complications

When having the injection, there is a risk of bacteria being brought down underneath the skin. This might lead to infection, which will show by swelling, intense heat, and pain.

Allergic reactions, renewed outbreak of acne, and discolouration of the skin are all possible but rare risks.

Healing and recovery

Work may be resumed immediately after the treatment. It is advised not to touch the treated area until 6 hours after the treatment. After this, light makeup can be applied.

It is also advised not to expose the treated area to powerful heat (sunlight or tanning beds), or strong cold for up to 3 weeks.

Duration of the result

Perlane, Restylane and Esthelis have effect for up to 1 year (6-12 months), after which a new treatment will be necessary.
